The Pillow vase is our original piece. It was 2021 and I was learning to pot. I was trying to throw a perfect tall vase, the tallest one I had ever made at this point. Standing 18 cm tall, I was very proud. But I took it too far, the walls at the top of the vase became too thin. Seconds after my hands left the clay, the vase collapsed. Noooo, my vase I thought. I was a bit gutted, well until I discovered what I had created. The soft slump reminded me of tired clay that had had enough, it had created a space to rest. Thus the Pillow vase was born.Perfectly imperfect, the pillow vase is a statement piece that sits proudly in any space.
Hand thrown on the potter’s wheel, this unique vase is always different, no one piece is the same, giving each piece the chance to be truly unique and one of a kind. A centre piece perfectly suited for fresh summer flowers or to highlight the long lasting foraged and dried Spring leaves
A piece that will stand proud in your home, one that will be the talking point for any space

A guide to setting a table people remember. You bring the people. We will help you set the table they gather around.
You already know the nights that matter. The ones spent around the table. The long lunches, the wine that turns into dinner,
the people who do not want to leave. Here is how to build the table they gather around one piece at a time
Step one
Start with the board
Every good gather begins with something to pick at. Lay a platter down the centre of the table and pile it high, cheese and cured meats at one end, olives and something sweet at the other, a knife left in the butter. Let people reach across each other for it. The board is not really about the food. It is the reason everyone leans in and stays.
Our tip. Leave gaps. A board that looks a little undone invites people to dig in.
Step two
Give them something to dip
This is where a table comes alive. Set down a little dish of good olive oil, a bowl of dip, another for the olives and the pits, and hand everyone something to tear their bread through. These small vessels are where the night gets loud. Hands cross, someone double dips and nobody minds, and the conversation loosens with every reach. Do not think of them as extras. The little dishes are the invitation to get stuck in, the moment a polite gathering becomes a proper one.
Step three
Bring the bowl that makes it a meal
Then comes the turn. A big salad bowl set down in the middle changes everything, the moment the night stops being nibbles and becomes dinner. Fill it generously, pass it hand to hand, let everyone serve themselves and reach back for more. A bowl this size says something out loud, we are staying, we are eating properly, pull your chair in. It is the centre of the table and the heart of the meal, and it deserves to be a beautiful thing.
Then gather your people
You do not need all of it at once. The best tables are built slowly, the board this year, the bowl the next, each piece carrying the New Zealand shore it came from. Set it well, pour the wine, then forget all of it and pay attention to them. You are the Author of the night now.

We were gifted the 20cm vase—with the remnants of my wedding bouquet—from our registry and fell in love. We decided to order the 23cm vase as a companion. We think they'll look wonderful displayed as a set with or without flowers. Very nice working with the business owners and artist, and they package everything extraordinary well.
Many thanx for your service. I gifted the vase (sas the packaging by photo, loved it!) and you were kind enough to sind my birthday wishes with it. I discovered your beautiful ceramics (living in Europe) and am glad I could introduce you to my NZ friend!
I bought the coastal vase for my wife and to say she loves it would be an understatement. I knew Author Ceramics made beautiful, good quality products hence why i bought it in the first place although it has certainly exceeded my expectations and really transformed the space where it sits.
Couldn't recommend higher and will definitely be back for more pieces.
Thank you team!
