Just like the OG, only smaller—because sometimes size does matter. The Mini Boring Platter is your new go-to for crackers and cheese, or even as the fanciest little jewellery dish you've ever owned.
At approx. 33cm long and 16cm wide, it features a soft wave and a single dimple—perfect for folded charcuterie, whipped butter, or your favourite rings and things. The folded edge keeps runaway crackers (or earrings) in check and makes it super easy to pick up—one hand, no stress.
Designed to make life fun, this one's as much a piece of functional art as it is a damn good platter. Leave it out to impress when it's not in use. It looks too good to hide.
Handmade with our signature blend of Author clays and sand from both the East and West Coast, giving it that naturally raw, speckled finish you know and love.

A guide to setting a table people remember. You bring the people. We will help you set the table they gather around.
You already know the nights that matter. The ones spent around the table. The long lunches, the wine that turns into dinner,
the people who do not want to leave. Here is how to build the table they gather around one piece at a time
Step one
Start with the board
Every good gather begins with something to pick at. Lay a platter down the centre of the table and pile it high, cheese and cured meats at one end, olives and something sweet at the other, a knife left in the butter. Let people reach across each other for it. The board is not really about the food. It is the reason everyone leans in and stays.
Our tip. Leave gaps. A board that looks a little undone invites people to dig in.
Step two
Give them something to dip
This is where a table comes alive. Set down a little dish of good olive oil, a bowl of dip, another for the olives and the pits, and hand everyone something to tear their bread through. These small vessels are where the night gets loud. Hands cross, someone double dips and nobody minds, and the conversation loosens with every reach. Do not think of them as extras. The little dishes are the invitation to get stuck in, the moment a polite gathering becomes a proper one.
Step three
Bring the bowl that makes it a meal
Then comes the turn. A big salad bowl set down in the middle changes everything, the moment the night stops being nibbles and becomes dinner. Fill it generously, pass it hand to hand, let everyone serve themselves and reach back for more. A bowl this size says something out loud, we are staying, we are eating properly, pull your chair in. It is the centre of the table and the heart of the meal, and it deserves to be a beautiful thing.
Then gather your people
You do not need all of it at once. The best tables are built slowly, the board this year, the bowl the next, each piece carrying the New Zealand shore it came from. Set it well, pour the wine, then forget all of it and pay attention to them. You are the Author of the night now.

I love it! I don’t have charcuterie stuff available yet, but it’s perfect!!! This is the small on the left and medium on the right! Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful, have been wanting to purchase a piece from Author Ceramics for a long time. The quality is amazing, very unique. Shipping to the US was quick and seamless, very well packed. Will recommend to others!
Love my mini coastal platter. Perfect for a girl dinner night for one. Luckily I bought two so my husband can have one also! The packaging I received my two plates in was a bit OTT, so no chance of damage during delivery.
These individual platters are so versatile and unique. I couldn’t wait to use them. I had my niece over for a movie night and sleepover and we used them for our movie night snacks - it was perfect!
The plate is very stylish and makes a normal dining table look like the ones at the hotel! Very satisfied with the product and hope to use it for a long time!
Well done Author! I bought this as a house warming gift for a friend, and wish I got one for myself. The quality is excellent and it is such a stunning piece of homeware. The ordering process was simple and the team at Author were responsive to any queries that I had. It was expertly packed for the international delivery. I will definately be ordering again and get something for myself!
I ordered the coastal mini platter as my own personal girl dinner tray and 10/10 would recommend. It’s just as stunning in person as it is on the website and feels light yet sturdy to hold. It has me considering investing in all of the similar platters because breaking all of these out at a dinner party would just be stunning. Also great communication and packed incredibly well to ensure your order arrived in one piece.
I was very happy when the platter arrived in Denmark after a very long journey. The platter arrived in perfect condition and was very thoroughly packed to protect it.
The platter is exactly as shown in pictures. I am very happy and I can’t wait to use it.

Thank you so much for letting us know. So glad you love it
Absolutely wonderful experience buying from these guys. Purchased the Coastal Mini Boring Platter as a gift and reached out to Stephen to ensure it would arrive to Aus in time. He could not have been more helpful and communication throughout was excellent. The platter arrived early and safely (honestly - the packing was so good it would have had to drop from the plane to break) and the platter itself is absolutely stunning - beautifully hand crafted and the local sand in the glaze is a lovely touch. I am genuinely sad to be gifting it and looking forward to ordering myself something nice in the near future.
This little handmade piece of New Zealand warms my heart! After honeymooning there over 20 years ago, I love having such a beautiful display piece to remind me of the country we fell in love with. I was impressed with how securely this item was packaged for its international trip, that little extra TLC means so much!
Store owner replied:
Oh wow this means so so much to me. This is exactly why I started this and called it Author. So that we could tell our story and have our work continue to tell the story of others. Thank you so so much
The Author Ceramics Coastal Mini Boring Platter is a beautifully understated piece, It’s minimal without being plain, and works perfectly as a small serving platter or decorative object on its own. The craftsmanship is excellent—smooth finish, well balanced, and clearly handmade with care.
