Every few months we bring our entire studio to Ponsonby. We have the perfect opportunity to experience clay for the first time or take a hobby to the next level with our workshops. Or if you're more into shopping, all of our best pieces will be available in store so pop in and say hi.

Author ceramics workshops have been created to allow you to make stunning and unique ceramics. To give you the chance to be the Author of your very own collection. We make all our own signature clay blends using NZ clay and sand. It is more than just a workshop, a night out to learn, create, let go and come away with a truly one-of-a-kind work of art. We currently have three unique classes where you can make your very own Author creation. We provide you with everything, all you need to do is turn up. These epic classes take around 1.5 - 2 hours.
All of your creations during the class will be fired and ready to use for your next dinner party.
These classes give you the chance to learn the very basics of Hand-building in a fun and relaxed environment. You will be guided through the entire process, where you can relax, get creative and get messy. Come on your own or with friends, this is an open, friendly environment.
Our store will also be open for retail from 10 - 4 everyday with the classes being held in the evening. The store and all of our workshops are run by us, Lilly and Stephen. A husband and wife duo and the creative minds behind Author Ceramics. We are a small family business right here in Aotearoa.
FAQ
How do I book a class?
Our classes are all held during pop ups which are pre booked months in advance. We release our class dates as early as possible, once the pop up is confirmed. You may notice dates available for classes at our next or following pop ups which will be available to book as well. Make sure you check the dates you are booking.
Why cant I book?
Our classes book out fast. To ensure you get your spot, subscribe to our emails and be the first to know. If you are unable to add the number of people in your group to cart, this means the numbers are not available for that class sorry.
Can I buy a voucher for a workshop?
We offer vouchers for our store, which can be used to purchase workshops, however if you are concerned that the desired date will be booked out before you gift the voucher, get in touch and we can create a voucher specifically for you.
What should I wear?
Ponsonby Central is full of amazing restaurants and our classes are a perfect addition to dinner for a fun night out. Dress up or down, the choice is yours. Hand building can be relatively tidy work and you will be set up with an apron, however we can't guarantee you don't get a drop on your clothes.
How often do you hold pop ups?
We try to have around three pop ups booked ahead of time, around six a year. Sign up to our newsletters to keep up to date.
Where is my class within Ponsonby Central?
Ponsonby Central has five pop up spaces. You will find us either in shop 4a or 4d. Shop 4a has high visibility sitting proud at the front entrance of Ponsonby Central so you can't miss us. Shop 4d is situated between Boar & Blade and Chop Chop, just within the front entrance as well.
How long are the classes?
Each class is around 1.5 - 2 hours.
How does the glaze process work?
All pieces are glazed with a clear glaze to showcase our clay blends, all work is then dishwasher safe.
How long does it take to receive my finished piece?
Around 8 weeks.
What will I make during my class?
During your class time, you will make your main piece / pieces (depending on which class you are joining). In each class you will also start by making a few pinch pots which can be used as condiment bowls or jewellery dishes etc.
Do I need to wear closed footwear?
Nah.
Do I need to bring anything along?
Nope! We have everything you need.
